Weekly Write-Up: 26th June 2019

by Tom Ashford

Welcome to the SPF Weekly Write-Up, where each Wednesday we collect together the self-publishing news of the week so you don’t have to.

This week: the best time to send an email, people getting angry over the misuse of English, and it’s your last chance to enrol in Ads for Authors.

The Best Time to Send an Email

…is when it’s ready! But no, seriously – MailerLite had put together an article all about when the best time to send an email is. They go through the established opinions on different days during the week – Mondays are too busy, weekends are tricky – and then dive into some actual concrete data.

On Tuesdays and Fridays, the majority of people open their emails at 11am, though the highest amount of clicks happens at 9am. And Sundays at 9am is when people both open their emails and click the links. (It’s a Sunday morning, people. Come on!)

Of course, there are plenty of other aspects of an email launch to consider. The article goes into great depth, so it’s well worth a read. You can check it out here.

Words Change, People Get Angry

People don’t like change, particularly when it comes to spelling, grammar and the basic use of the English language. And quite rightly so. I still haven’t got over Americans dropping the ‘u’ from ‘colour’.

A great article on various examples of language being warped and used incorrectly was posted into the SPF Facebook group this week, so I’ve shared it here. It describes the infamous “grammar vigilante” in Bristol, England, who goes around correcting shop signs which use wayward apostrophes (love his work), and Ivanka Trump’s humorous misunderstanding of the word ‘otherwise’.

You can read it here.

Last Chance to Enrol in Ads for Authors

…until it reopens in the winter, that is. Still, if you want to learn how to master Facebook, Amazon and BookBub Ads (plus a lot more) then you’ll need to hurry. You can enrol here.

And if you’re on the fence, why not sign up for our final webinar tonight (26th June 2019)? It’s free, you’ll learn some Amazon Ads techniques, and you’ll find out more about the course. Book your place here.
