Weekly Write-Up: 5th February 2020

Welcome to the SPF Weekly Write-Up, where each Wednesday we collect together the self-publishing news of the week so you don’t have to.

This week: a mini Charlotte Bronte book goes on show, the year ahead in (trad) publishing, and the SPF Foundation winners are announced.

Mini Charlotte Bronte Book Goes on Show

Bless it! It’s so small.

Apparently Bronte wrote six “mini” books when she was around 14, filled with spoof stories and pretend advertisements. This particular one, called the “Young Men’s Magazine”, has gone on show at the Parsonage Museum in West Yorkshire (UK) after being bought for £512,970.

Maybe we should be looking to put our prices up? You can read more about the teeny weeny book here.

The Year Ahead in Publishing…

…well, traditional publishing. That’s the beauty of self-publishing – it’s far too swift and adaptable for anyone to create a list like this!

But for those of us who are as big a reader as we are a writer, you might find this article interesting. It lists all of the big (trad – I’m sure some indies could smash these books’ launches out of the park) book releases in 2020, alongside notable film and television adaptations, and interesting anniversaries.

You can read the list here.

The SPF Foundation Winners Are Announced

Unlike traditional publishing, self-publishing is available to everyone. However, not everybody can afford the editing and cover design involved. That’s why we launched the SPF Foundation – once a year, we give four aspiring students a once in a lifetime chance to get their indie careers off to the best possible start.

The winners this year are Heather Sommer Eagar, Jay Aspen, Catherine Chantel Givans, and Shaun Baines. Each winner receives access to the 101 and Ads for Authors courses and $2,500 to spend on author services at reedsy.com.

For more information on the Foundation, and to apply, please visit www.selfpublishingformula.com/spf-foundation.
