Weekly Write-Up: 8th April 2020

Welcome to the SPF Weekly Write-Up, where each Wednesday we collect together the self-publishing news of the week so you don’t have to.

This week: authors rush to publish coronavirus-themed novels, and a reminder that our premium Instagram Stories webinar is taking place tonight.

Authors Rush to Publish Dystopian “Fiction”

Thanks to the coronavirus, the world seems to have ground to a halt. There isn’t even much in the way of publishing news anymore, self or otherwise!

But while many of us are finding it hard to get words onto the page (especially those suddenly lumbered with children!), other authors have dusted off old dystopian manuscripts in order to make the most of the current climate. Apparently people are in the mood for books of an apocalyptic nature right now!

Though in at least one case mentioned in the article below, the publisher had previously turned the book down. It’s almost as if they choose books based on profitability, not quality…

You can read the original article here.

Reminder: Instagram Stories for Authors Webinar – Tonight!

In case you missed it, there’s a brand new premium webinar taking place tonight dedicated entirely to Instagram Stories. SPF regular and Instagram guru, Stuart Grant, will be taking us through everything we need to know in order to tap into the platform’s ever-growing (and inevitably book hungry) audience.

The SPF University is currently free to enrol in (it’s normally exclusive to course students and Patreon subscribers, but we’re extending enrolment during the coronavirus outbreak). You can catch Stuart’s webinar tonight at 8pm (UK time), or catch up afterwards in the SPFU course folder.

And if you haven’t already signed up to the SPFU, you can do so here.
