Weekly Write-Up: 19th February 2020

Welcome to the SPF Weekly Write-Up, where each Wednesday we collect together the self-publishing news of the week so you don’t have to.

This week: don’t believe everything you read online, SPS Live digital tickets go on sale, and SPFU students get an Instagram for Authors webinar.

Fake News

If you needed another reminder not to believe everything you read online, here you go.

The clickbaity title should have given the game away. “Whatever happened to the ebook revolution?” is suggestive that the arrival of ebooks and ereaders didn’t change the publishing landscape forever. Of course it did. Beforehand, people read paperback books. Now, they can get them on a portable reading device. Things changed.

The rest of the article is little better – unreferenced statistics, speculations about generational activity, and bizarre statements on how ebook pricing works. Nor does it consider the effect Kindle Unlimited has had on the way people read (or if non-ISBN ebooks, a category in which many indie books belong, were including in their “study”).

If you still want to read it, you can find the article here.

SPS Live – Digital Conference Ticket

Not everyone can make it to the inaugural Self Publishing Show Live event in person (maybe one day, when we take it on a world tour). That’s why we’re having a professional production company come and film the whole thing, so that everyone else can watch it at a later date – at a time, pace and location that suits them.

It’s only $25 for lifetime access (and if you pre-order, you get a $25 voucher off any future course purchase). You can grab a ticket here.

Instagram for Authors – SPFU

Last week we held an exclusive webinar for SPFU students, in which Stuart Grant guided us through the mysteries of Instagram (a platform many of us love but rarely make the most of). We had hundreds of people join us live, but anyone who’s a “University” student can now watch the replay in the SPFU course folder.

If you’re not sure if you qualify to watch it – anybody who is enrolled in any of our courses (101 or Ads for Authors) or is a Patreon supporter automatically has access.

Enjoy – it’s a good one!
